Lauterbrunnen Valley
One of the most iconic places in Switzerland, and for good reason. The village of Lauterbrunnen is just a quick 20 min train ride from Interlaken. The village is the entryway to the spectacular Lauterbrunnen Valley which features high cliff walls, several waterfalls, and high mountains all around. The village itself doesn't have much of interest, some nice souvenir shops, cafes, and BASE jumping hangouts are the main things to see. You can do several hikes starting in the valley or get several cable car options up to surrounding mountain peaks.
There are several hikes around the valley to choose from, but what I've done when traveling in Lauterbrunnen is probably the most popular option.
After arriving by train in Lauterbrunnen walk along the road until you get to see Staubbachfalls area. There will be plenty of people walking around and taking pictures, and there's a big waterfall so it shouldn't be too hard to spot. Here's a map just in case. You can actually walk through some tunnels up to behind this waterfall, but everytime except once that it was there this part was closed due to falling rock dangers.
From here I recommend following the path to the Talstation Schilthornbahn which is right before Stechelberg. This walk is about 1.5 hours along a flat paved path which you can also bike or drive on. If you want to extend the hike a bit you can cross the valley roughly halfway along the path to go to Trummelbach falls which is a waterfall that goes through the mountain that you can pay a small fee to go see. I haven't actually checked it out, but it's another notable thing that's essentially along the way.
At the Schilthornbahn you can either get a bus back to Lauterbrunnen or go up the cable car to some of the various stops. For the purpose of this hike you will want to take the cable car to either Gimmelwald or Murren. Again these towns aren't super exciting, nice small wooden buildings with cafes and gift shops, but nothing crazy here. From Murren, or going to Murren from Gimmelwald, you can then either get a train along the cliffs headed back to Lauterbrunnen or, if you're still into the walking and hiking thing, you can take either the Flower Trail or Mountain View Trail back to Lauterbrunnen. I ended up taking the Flower Trail because a lightning storm was starting while I was doing the hike and so I wanted to be as low and quick as I could getting back. The trail is fine, but follows train tracks for most of the path and so the view of the mountains is slightly obstructed for parts. It is an easier option than the Mountain View trail though so it might be slightly better for families, but at the same time I don't believe the other trail is known for being difficult though.
You'll eventually Grutschalp where you can either get a cable car to Lauterbrunnen or hike down. The hike down is pretty fast, but by this point you don't have great views anymore.
So if you're looking for a quick way to see the valley with just a little bit of walking I'd say this is your best option. Of course the greater area has tons of other trails to check out if you get the chance.
